Sangli District is located in a belt of Krishna Valley, Sahyadri Hills and surrounded by Koyana & Warana rivers. Sangli area has well drained soils which are not too fertile.
This ensures that there is no excess vigour & crop, resulting in sweat, very good concentration and aromas. Traditionally  Sangli has very irrigated soils with the network of canals & dams. this will benefit in terms of quality wine making. As temperature during summer will not be so harsh with good required  humidity levels of 42 to 60% very dry weather results in loss of aromas and concentration. Last 15 years weather data has been studied and it has been established that, there is a good temperature difference between night and day  temperature, as nights are colder, very essential parameters for quality vine making. Certain Varieties which are difficult to grow in other parts of India like Chardonnay are giving excellent results in Sangli district, as this variety does well in cooler regions.
